It may seem like the 2020 NASCAR season just ended, but the drivers are already preparing for a new season. With the new year right around the corner, we are officially just two months away from the 2021 season. Just like every other year, there are several underrated drivers ready to make a big impact in the upcoming season. These are the four NASCAR drivers to watch in 2021.
While he had an early exit from the NASCAR playoffs, Ryan Blaney had one of the strongest finishes to the 2020 season. He ended the year with five straight top 10 finishes. He also 11 top-five finishes over the course of the entire season. The only thing that held Blaney back was an inability to win races. That should all change in 2021. Do not be shocked to see Ryan Blaney outperform his partners at Team Penske, Brad Keselowski, and Joey Logano.
Kyle Larson has always been one of the best young talents in racing. His 2020 season was cut short after receiving a lengthy suspension from NASCAR. This suspension also resulted in Larson getting fired from Chip Ganassi Racing. With his suspension behind him, Larson will be a member of Hendrick Motorsports in 2021. While he will not be driving the same car, Larson will essentially be replacing legend Jimmy Johnson on the team. Hendrick Motorsports even paired the young driver with Johnson’s old crew chief Cliff Daniels.
While it was not always for his racing ability, Bubba Wallace became one of the biggest names in NASCAR during the 2020 season. This newfound fame earned him a spot on the new 23XI Racing team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. It will be interesting to see if Wallace can live up to the hype. That will all likely depend on the quality of the car he receives from his new team.
Christopher Bell had a solid rookie season last year for the small Leavine Family Racing team. With his former team now defunct, Bell will join Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2021 NASCAR season. This will give the former Truck Series champion his first true chance to succeed at the highest level.
